“The last thing we want is to have these bright lights, Vegas style,” said Arcadia resident Barry Paceley about CBS Outdoor’s plans to install LED billboards. “It’s distracting and devalues our neighborhood.” Last Thursday, CBS Outdoor applied for a zoning adjustment allowing CBS to convert a billboard at 44th Street and Indian School into a digital LED billboard. Despite objections from residents in the Arcadia neighborhood Phoenix approved CBS’ request. Phoenix’s decision is on hold though pending a request of an appeal by Arcadia leaders.

“What this would do is create a precedent so throughout the entire city you could have lighted, movie screens in the middle of neighborhoods,” said mayoral candidate Greg Stanton. “I believe it sets a bad precedent for Phoenix.”
